About Hagit Abir

Hagit Abir, a graduate of fine arts from the Bezalel Academy and stage design at Shenkar College of Design. Over 12 years has been designing costumes and props for opera, dance, theater and television including : Venice Carnival, Bharati, Bat-Sheva, the Israeli Opera and Habima Theater.

Currently teaching design at the Jerusalem Academy of Music and Dance.

Hagit Abir's designs are a result of diligent work based on an extensive research and intuitive curiosity. Whether it is a dance show, which requires a high degree of ingenuity, a multidisciplinary musical theater piece or a children's theater play, which allows her to create magical visual worlds, for Abir, every design work leads her to embark on a cultural and artistic journey full of new and inspiring insights. The principle aim of her work is to foster a fertile dialogue with the choreographer or the director – engaging in a mutual learning experience, enhancing reciprocal relationships and forming new worlds together.

"What fascinates me in costume design is the intersection of space and the design of the body. For me, it is a pure work of sculpture. When approaching the process of costume design, I think about the movement of the body, the shape that surrounds it and redefines it".
